The Computer Vision Centre, celebrates 20 years since its foundation as a consortium between the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. To celebrate this milestone has organized two events, a scientific one and an institutional one.

Thursday 9th of July we organized a lecture where Dr. Antonio Torralba, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) made a brief tour of the history of research in computer vision, highlighting the faced challenges and those that are still to be overcome, but he also talked about the research that his group is developing.

It was a very entertaining and informative presentation for both experts in the field and those who wanted to understand a little better what is computer vision, what its potential is and what the next steps are.

The official ceremony on Friday July 10 was held on the premises of the Computer Vision Center. Outstanding personalities from the research and the business world of Catalonia linked to the CVC attended the event.

The day started with the speeches by the authorities, Mr. Pere Torres, secretary of enterprise and competitiveness, the director of the Computer Vision Centre, Dr. Josep Lladós, the founder of CVC, Dr. Juanjo Villanueva, the Mayor of Cerdanyola del Valles, Mr .Carles Escolà, the rector of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Mr. Ferran Sancho and finally the Minister of Enterprise and Employment, Hon. Mr. Felip Puig closed the speeches.

All of them highlighted the effort and the high scientific quality of the Catalan research and the need to enhance and invest in a country model where knowledge has an important strategic role.

Once the institutional part of the event finished, the attendees could see some of the work that is currently being developed in the center and get introduced to some of the most important projects that have been developed at the CVC over these 20 years.

One can say that the two events were a big success and attendees left with a good taste.

We leave here the speech by Mr. Josep Lladós, director of CVC.
